Weston Primary Montessori

Our Teachers

Gail Hartigan

The multi-age aspect of Montessori classrooms provides for a host of benefits to children as they progress through the program and become leaders.  I feel the emphasis on teaching young people to do and think for themselves, and learn to problem-solve independently, are great skills they will use for the rest of their lives. This allows the children to grow as confident individuals who are not afraid to make decisions for themselves.

I hold Higher Diplomas in Montessori Education 3 – 6 years ; 6 – 9 years; and 9 – 12 years.  I also hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Special Inclusive Education and a BA in Montessori Education.  I have nineteen years as an educator and I am proud to be part of the teaching staff in Weston Primary Montessori.

Montessori is real life, it instils many attributes such as; life skills, independence, confidence and self-belief to name a few.  I am happy to be one of the Primary teachers in our wonderful school. I have been teaching within a Montessori setting for the past 6 years. I have a huge passion for the Montessori Method of teaching. I started my studies in UCD in 2009, I then completed my Montessori of Arts with Special Needs qualification in 2013 followed by the completion of the BA in Early Childhood Education in 2016.

I have a huge grá for sports, especially GAA! I play myself & I’m a huge supporter of the game. I instil that love within our school and with numbers increasing I hope to set up the school GAA team!

In 2006 I graduated from Portobello College with a Montessori teaching diploma.  With seven years teaching experience, I have taught Junior and Senior infants and am currently teaching in the preschool room.  Supporting children to achieve their highest potential has been very rewarding! I believe that children learn best in a nurturing atmosphere where they feel free to be creative and express themselves. Providing children with a developmentally appropriate environment which promotes their self-esteem, and encourages them to interact with peers, is one of my priorities. When children feel empowered to make appropriate choices, and are respected for who they are, they thrive!

Sports have always played a huge part in my life.  With many years’ experience coaching mini rugby, I understand the importance of sports should not be underestimated as it if a great way for children to actively socialise, develop fitness and learn the importance of team work, all of which are essential life skills.  I enjoy taking advantage of the beautiful grounds on the doorstep of our school as it provides the children with excellent growth and learning opportunities.
